Teamwork - Respect - Aim High

Week beginning Monday 27th April

Hello Year 6!

This week, you will carry on looking at Soar. These lessons will support you to write a setting description of the elf's home planet so you can get creative and use your imagination. You will find all the resources you need linked down below.

Session 1

Think about what the elf's home planet might look like. Draw an image of the planet and then complete the senses (what you can see, hear, smell, taste and feel) grid using high-level, descriptive language. I have included a word bank to help you with your language. Extra challenge: can you include any personification, metaphors or similes in your sense grid?

eg. a spectacular array of winking stars

Session 2

It's time for a bit of Alan! For those of you who have forgotten or don't know, Alan Peat is a fantastic literacy specialist who created some interesting sentence types. Have a look at the sentence types I have linked below. Can you create your own versions of these sentences using the ideas you came up with in the sentence grid?

eg. Last word, first word: The iridescent moon cast a glow. A glow that illuminated the heavenly landscape.

Session 3

Time to write your setting description. I have included an example of a different setting description so you know what a good one looks like. Remember all the impressive vocabulary and sentences you have planned. I would LOVE to see your finished pieces so please email them to learning@gatcombepark.portsmouth.sch.uk so that I can read them.
