Teamwork - Respect - Aim High
Leaders Award 2020
For those of you that remember, the whole school entered this competition 2 years ago and EVERY child received a certificate after having their entry looked at by an engineer. Many children received ‘Highly commended’ certificates and we even had one entry from Year R shortlisted with her work being put on display at the University of Southampton.
What’s it all about?
The competition opens the world of engineering up to children, allowing the opportunity to explore what engineering is, listen to different engineers and then have a go at being an engineer themselves.
How does it work?
To enter the competition, children must find out about engineering and some different engineers before they have a go at designing something themselves that will provide a solution to a real-life problem. They will draw and label their design and then write a letter to engineers to explain how their design helps to solve a problem.
Each week of this half term, there will be a different challenge uploaded to the class pages going through this whole process. So keep checking the class page each week to see what the next challenge is!
At the end of the half term, we will begin to collate all the entries and send them off to be judged. Later this year, we will hear back from the engineers with certificates and any awards.
It would be great to see as many photos each week as possible to see how everyone is getting on with their ideas! So please email your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org
