Welcome to Year 1!
We are very pleased to welcome you back and getting stuck into our learning!
Here are some highlights of our curriculum this half term:
English: We are reading 'Lost and Found' by OIiver Jeffers. We will be learning all about penguins and writing some facts about them!
If you would like to share in our learning, here are some books by Oliver Jeffers you could read together at home:
Maths: We will be exploring numbers between 1 and 10, counting forwards and backwards, and looking at number bonds.
Science: Animals including humans - looking at and understanding the human body.
Geography: A study of our local area: Hilsea.
DT: Levers and sliders, building up to creating our own sliders.
Spanish: Los Saludos (Greetings)
Other Key Information for Year 1
PE - Tuesday and Thursday.
Please come to school in school PE kit - shorts or tracksuit bottoms in cold weather, white polo shirt or t-shirt, a school jumper and trainers. Please make sure long hair is tied back and jewellery is not worn/ stud earrings taped up..
Home Learning -
Phonics homework will be sent home on a Friday to recap some prior learning. Please practice the sounds with your child to support their phonics learning. The children will also have access to Numbots, please spend the equivalent of an hour each week.
Home Reading -
Phonics books will be sent home on a Wednesday, to be returned the following week on a Monday. Please read each night with your child - this could be a mix of both phonics and reading for pleasure books. Please sign the children's reading log, which will be checked on a Wednesday and rewarded with house points.
What to bring to school each day -
Lunch box (unless your child is having a school packed lunch) and water bottle.
They also need to bring their home reader and reading log every day.
If it is colder or raining, please make sure your child has a coat and a jumper with a name in.
Library day -
Every Tuesday. Please ensure books are being returned each week so your child can continue to borrow from the Library.
