Welcome to Year 1!
Autumn 2:
We have been very busy so far this term!
Here are some highlights of our curriculum this half term:
English: We are reading 'Shh We Have a Plan" and writing some instructions. Our characters weren't able to catch the bird, so we have written instructions to help them on their next adventure - catching a squirrel!
We will also be reading the poem 'The Star' and learning the poem off by heart. To support learning at home, have a go at practicing reading it aloud!
Maths: We will be exploring part-part-whole models and partitioning numbers between 1 and 10.
Science: Materials - Learning about the different types of materials and which are recyclable.
History: The living memory, looking at how shops have changed over time.
Art: Drawing and painting in the style of the artist Lowry.
Spanish: Los colores y los numeros (Colours and numbers).
Other Key Information for Year 1
PE - Tuesday and Thursday.
Please come to school in school PE kit - shorts or tracksuit bottoms in cold weather, white polo shirt or t-shirt, a school jumper and trainers. Please make sure long hair is tied back and jewellery is not worn/ stud earrings taped up..
Home Learning -
Phonics homework will be sent home on a Friday to recap some prior learning. Please practice the sounds with your child to support their phonics learning. The children will also have access to Numbots, please spend the equivalent of an hour each week.
Home Reading -
Phonics books will be sent home on a Wednesday, to be returned the following week on a Monday. Please read each night with your child - this could be a mix of both phonics and reading for pleasure books. Please sign the children's reading log, which will be checked on a Wednesday and rewarded with house points.
What to bring to school each day -
Lunch box (unless your child is having a school packed lunch) and water bottle.
They also need to bring their home reader and reading log every day.
If it is colder or raining, please make sure your child has a coat and a jumper with a name in.
Library day -
Every Monday. Please ensure books are being returned each week so your child can continue to borrow from the Library.
