At Gatcombe Park Primary school, we aim to develop children as musicians who:
develop a personal love of music
develop a critical ear, enabling them to compare and express preferences across a range of music
build an appreciation of a wide variety of music from a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
learn respectful appreciation and criticism of composition and performance of themselves and their peers
learn to sing and to use their voices in a range of groups and styles
appreciate music (voice and instrumental) as a form of communication and express their own views about this while considering those of others
create and compose music on their own and with others, with an increasing understanding of the inter related dimensions of music, using tuned and untuned instruments as well as technology.
