Curriculum

Gatcombe Park Curriculum

Our curriculum aims for our children to become responsible local, national and global citizens, who show a deep spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. We aim to develop creative thinkers, resilient problem-solvers and leaders, equipped with the skills and knowledge to make a difference to society.

Our mastery curriculum aims for depth across all curriculum areas. Carefully sequenced learning develops knowledge and skills that are revisited within year groups, across subjects and are built on throughout the school. Task design allows children to apply their knowledge, progressing from a basic demonstration of their understanding through to application via problem-solving, evaluation and creation.

Each term's learning is tied together through the themes of Places, People and Events with half-termly topic led through either Geography or History, coupled with Art or D.T. Each topic is enquiry-based allowing children to explore, question and reflect on key issues and problems centred around important concepts such as community, equality, sustainability and justice. Children are given exciting opportunities to make purposeful links with the community and industry experts through visits or visitors, providing context to their learning and therefore producing meaningful and intentional outcomes.

Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and to provide access for all, and as such complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.
