Mrs Thistlewaite and Miss Blades
Autumn 1 2025
Welcome to Year 2. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back and getting stuck into some new and exciting learning.
Here are some of the highlights of our curriculum this half term:
English: Our reading and writing will mostly be based on the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' written by Drew Dewalt. We will be writing letters from Duncan (The owner of the crayons and the reason they want to quit) back to the crayons. We will also look at a poem called ' The Hairy Toe' where will write our own version in narrative form using descriptive language.
Phonics and Spelling: We will begin by revisiting some of the more complex phonics learning covered at the end of Year 1. We will complete a 5 week Phase 5 review.
Maths: Composition of multiples of 10.
Science: Animals including humans. We will be learning about the importance of exercise, eating the right types of food and hygiene.
Geography: The United Kingdom. The countries and their capitals.
DT: Food and nutrition - Linking to our Science learning. The Eat Well Plate.
