Key information for our class is below.

 

REGULAR ROUTINES

 

  • What to bring to school each day - Lunch box (unless your child is having a school lunch), water bottle and their home learning pack (reading book, reading log, spellings)

 

  • PE - Monday and Friday (Please come to school in PE kit - black/grey joggers/leggings or cycling shorts/shorts if the weather is warm, trainers.  TOP HALF AS NORMAL FOR SCHOOL UNIFORM - polo shirt and school sweatshirt/cardigan.

 

Home learning

 

  • Please read with your child at least three times each week. We have updated reading logs for you and your children to complete together.
  • Spelling - will be given weekly. The words will be from the year 4 statutory spelling list, from words links to year 4 topics and grammar rules.

AUTUMN 1 CURRICULUM

 

Maths - Revisiting column addition and subtraction strategies from year 3, secure place value to 1000, comparing and converting measures and comparing, ordering and rounding 4 digit numbers.

 

WRITING - Our class text this half term is 'The Firework Makers Daughter' by Phillip Pullman. We will look at some character descriptions and some narrative writing. 

 

READING - We are following a new scheme called 'Destination Reader' where there is a big focus on developing overall learning behaviours, the love and joy of reading as well as the key skills needed for comprehension. 

 

SCIENCE - States of Matter. Looking at the properties of solids, liquids and gases, how they can change state and the water cycle.

 

GEOGRAPHY - 'Can we control Mother Nature?' Looking at volcanoes and Earthquakes. Linked with our DT unit where we look at the use of pneumatics in designing earthquake proof buildings.

 

MUSIC - Year 4 are lucky enough to being getting Portsmouth Music Hub lessons using brass instruments each week for the whole of the Autumn term.

 

PHSE - 'Health and Wellbeing' Physical health and mental wellbeing, growing and changing and keeping safe.

 

COMPUTING - Programming – Repetition in shapes.

 

PE - Gymnastics with Megan and footwork and balance.

 

RE - Islam - 'How special is Allah to Muslims?'

 

SPANISH - Mi familia (My family).
