Welcome to Yr R ! We are really excited to get to know you all and to have lots of fun as we learn together.
Starting school is a big adventure, but we are here to help you. You'll make lots of new friends in the class
and learn so many new things. In the Yr R class you will also meet our little friend 'Peter Puffin'- he loves to join us
as we share stories, play games together.
Our Learning
This half term we will begin our learning with the mini topic ‘All About Me’. We will then follow this with our 'Autumn' topic.
Here are some key skills that we will be learning:
PSED: To develop independence by managing our belongings.
To find the resources that we need and to put them away.
To follow the class routine & rules.
CL: To talk about our home and family.
To listen to stories and describe what is happening.
PHYS: To build our gross motor skills practising familiar patterns of movement.
To begin to develop our fine motor skills.
LIT To begin to recognise sounds in words.
To practise forming letter patterns correctly.
MATHS To practise counting through rhymes, songs and games.
To learn to subitise small groups of objects.
KUW To notice changes in the seasons and talk about what we see.
EAD- To use a variety of media to create self- portraits
Other Key information for Yr R
PE - Thursdays Please come to school in PE kit - black shorts and a plain white T-shirt.
Tracksuit bottoms may be worn and suitable warm top or school jumper in colder weather.
Home learning - Phonics practice sheets and flashcards will be sent out regularly once the children have started their phonics lessons. Please practise the letter sounds regularly using the support videos on the Little Wandle website. Reading books will also be sent home every Wednesday to return on the following Monday. Parent Reading Workshop Weds 1st October 3.45pm.
What to bring to school each day - Book bag, water bottle, lunch box (unless your child is having a school packed lunch), reading book and phonics pack.
Library day - Tuesday (from October).
