Welcome to Kingfisher Class!
Welcome to Kingfishers!
Miss Mackenzie, Mrs Terrett and Miss Russell
Goodbye 2020 and a big welcome to 2021! Last term was one to remember and I want to continue to offer my thanks to everyone in Kingfisher class and at home for their support in what was a very unusual term. We are not completely out of the woods yet though so we must keep up with social distancing requirements as we look towards Spring.
This term, we are reading Stone Age Boy, by Satoshi Kitamura and will be hooking our writing to the events, themes and characters of the book. It links fantastically with our History and science topics too.
Reading fluency and comprehension are continuing key skills we will work on and develop. Our writing skills will build on those learnt and applied in Year 3 - we will become more confident writers of a range of sentences for effect, develop vocabulary choices and be effective appraisers of the effect of our writing on the intended reader.
In Maths, we are continuing to explore number and place value and multiplication, division, addition and subtraction with numbers up to at least 10,000. We will continue to develop understanding of scaling - the effect of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. The four calculations and the range of visual and written methods will be key in all our work. All our Maths will link to real life situations as appropriate, so we are confident and familiar with a range of measures.
DON'T FORGET.... knowledge of times table is VERY important, so keep using TTRockstars to ensure rapid recall of all times tables.
Our curriculum enquiry question this term is 'Is change OK?' We will be looking at the changes from the Stone Age to the Iron Age in Britain and what life was like at those times. In Science we will be focusing on rocks, the different types and their properties. Also looking at how fossils are formed and what soil is made up of.
